Beam Saber

Created by Austin Ramsay

Beam Saber is a Forged In The Dark game about the pilots of powerful machines in a war that dominates every facet of life. They are trying to do their part, then get out physically and mentally intact. The organizations that perpetuate The War throughout all of known space are too incomprehensibly huge to take down. There is no “winning” The War, there is only surviving it. Hopefully you can help others get out too. If you want to purchase the PDF alone, go to https://austin-ramsay.itch.io/beamsaber

Latest Updates from Our Project:

November 2021 Update
over 2 years ago – Tue, Nov 23, 2021 at 07:12:28 PM

Here's how things are progressing with Beam Saber

  • Sasha continues to work on the layout of the book. They are trying out some ideas to best incorporate the spot illustrations and diary fiction. Nested bookmarks are being added, along with other quality of life improvements. I've included examples below of how the WIP layout is progressing.
  • Hadrian continues to work on the chapter art and it looks great! I've decided to continue the sneak peaks with The Pilot Playbooks chapter art that was finished.
  • The spot illustrations continue to be worked on. Ardal Then and Ben Fleuter have finished their contributions, and I've included examples below.

Beam Saber Version 0.6 is Live!
over 2 years ago – Sun, Oct 31, 2021 at 12:46:07 PM

This version has wonderful new layout thanks to the hard work of Sasha Reneau. Please note that the layout is still not finished yet (needs nested bookmarks, a working index, etc), but I wanted to get it out to the public for two reasons:

1) I know how much you all want to see the fantastic new art (by Cory McDaniel, Vincent Patrick, Mal Peters, Atlas Sellman, and Christine Blight) and layout!

2) I know that you all with your many, many eyes are very likely to find any bugs that Sasha and I have missed.

What I am requesting:

Please send any bugs you find to [email protected] with the Subject "Bug Report V0.6".
Include your bug list as a .doc attachment (or .txt or .rtf if you can't make a .doc) using a bullet list.
For  each bug have a page number (according the PDF's page counter, NOT the  in book pagination), a description of the bug, and a description of the  bug's location on the page.

What I do NOT want:

-suggestions on what you think would look better for the art or layout

-suggestions on how to fix the rules

What I am looking for:

-instances of broken or misaligned layout

-typos (spelling and grammer)

-rules contradictions

I hope you all enjoy this newest version of the game and look forward to its further improvement!

October 2021 Update

Here's how things are progressing with Beam Saber

  • Sasha continues to work on the layout of the book. They sent me an updated pdf that's not ready for the public (art or no art) because there are some moderate issues that remain (such as improperly aligned tables, unnested bookmarks, etc). Lookwise though, it's lookin great and I've included some of the pages below!
  • Hadrian continues to work on the chapter art and it looks great! I've decided to continue the sneak peaks with The Pilots chapter art that was finished.
  • I've commissioned some artists to make some spot art to fill in some of the blanks in the layout. I'll be working with Christine Blight, Atlas Sellman, Imani Kelker, Andrew Ferris, Ardal Then, Jess Whitmore, and Ben Fleuter. Christine and Atlas have already got their work in and I've included some of their pieces below as part of the layout examples.

Now onto the art!

Beam Saber Intro Story audiobook!
over 2 years ago – Mon, Aug 30, 2021 at 06:38:14 PM

For  the last few months Christine Blight (with some help from me) has been  working on turning the introductory story that will appear in the final  version of Beam Saber into an amazing audio file. The story is written  by Austin Walker and tells the tale of a group of DFS soldiers sent on a  special mission to assassinate the leaders of the Adamant Council of  Nor through extraordinary means.

If you don't want to wait for the text, the audio version is now available for anyone for free through the Beam Saber Itch page! Just download Beam Saber Intro Story.zip!
